What is Sports Massage?

Sports massage therapy uses a variety of massage techniques that are customized to your specific needs. By systematically manipulating the muscles, tendons and ligaments specific to your sport, the massage helps to reduce and rehabilitate injuries, keep your muscles loose and make sure that you’re always able to give your best performance on the field.

You don’t need to be a professional athlete to benefit from sports massage therapy. Anyone that lives an active lifestyle can benefit from the restorative and rejuvenating properties that a sports massage provides.

Sports massage is one of the best non-invasive methods to improve your performance, help you return from injury or recover from a particularly rough game or workout. It doesn't matter if you’re a weekend warrior, an amateur athlete or a professional, if you’re an active person, sports massage therapy can help you stay on the field longer, perform better and get back out there faster when injury strikes.

What are the some of the benefits of Sports Massage?

Sports massage is a safe form of therapy that offers active people many benefits. Whether you’re looking to recover from an injury or improve your performance, sports massage therapy can help you reach your goals. Benefits of regular sports massage therapy sessions include:

• Increased blood flow to joints, muscles and other soft tissues
• Better range of motion
• More flexibility
• Reduced chance of injury
• Faster recovery time between workouts
• Faster recovery from injury
• Reduced chance of muscle spasms
• Less tension in muscles
• Reduced muscle stress and soreness

One of the reasons so many athletes use sports massage therapy to help their performance is that it helps alleviate some of the symptoms of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). Our muscles are prone to overuse, especially those of us that engage in strenuous physical activity. DOMS typically sets in between 24-36 hours after strenuous physical activity and can cause increased swelling, soreness and fatigue. Sports massage therapy helps reduce those symptoms by relaxing your muscles so that you can get back in the gym, on the slopes or anywhere else that your activity of choice takes place.

What are the psychological benefits of Sports Massage?

Aside from the physical benefits associated with sports massage, there are also a number of psychological benefits to be had. Psychological benefits of sports massage include:

• Reduced anxiety

• Reduced stress levels

• Feelings of rejuvenation and invigoration

• Better mind-body connection

The psychological benefits derived from massage therapy will help you build confidence in yourself, your body and help relieve the anxiety many of us have before a big match.

I've heard I'll be sore

One of the most common worries that people have about sports massage therapy is that it will leave them sore and in pain. The day after a sports massage, you may experience some soreness. This is normal. However, your personal massage session can always be adjusted with technique and pressure to minimize any soreness. Sports massage is a form of deep tissue massage therapy and helps break up scar tissue and other adhesions that are present on your muscles. The pressure needed to remove problem areas and help your muscles heal can leave your muscles fatigued the following day.

Drinking plenty of water immediately after your massage and throughout the next day will help rehydrate your muscles and reduce any soreness you encounter. Following your massage, you should go home, relax and let your muscles recuperate.

Online Scheduling

  • 60 Minute Massage $60
60 minutes is the standard for a full body, nonspecific massage. The whole body gets worked, but no area requires special attention, ie, no extra time on the back, shoulders, neck, etc. Typically, this is suited for a light-medium pressure, relaxation massage. Another variant of a 60 minute massage, is a focused massage, where the time is prioritized, and when the entire body does not need to get worked. This would give sufficient time to work on some back problems, but no thorough work is needed elsewhere.

When adding the massage time into your daily schedule, please permit an additional 10-15 minutes to your massage. Unlike most massage chains, your massage time is your actual hands on time, so extra time is added to allow us to go over any issues, and for you to get on and off the table. For example, a 1 hour appointment that starts at 12, will have you ready to leave at about 1:15.

"Deep Tissue" is always available for any time block, however an additional $20 is added to this session. You can always double check before the massage if it is really something you need or want.
  • 90 Minute Massage $80

90 minutes is my most recommended massage. It is best for being able to focus on one or two areas, and spend additional time to work out some issues, but also still be able to spend time on the rest of the body. If you have 3 or 4 issues you really want worked out, this also allows sufficient time, but non-issue areas of the body may not have time to get worked on.

  • 120 Minute Massage $100
The 2 hour massage, not recommended for beginners. This massage is for those whose whole body seems to be an issue. You may need an hour on your back alone, but still plenty of time everywhere else. This is also common for when someone wants a full body Deep Tissue massage. While you are allowed to book this time, a previous 60 or 90 minute massage is recommended before taking on the 2 hour. You may not need it, and half way through it, you may decide you don't want it. Best for those that had a 90 minute, and there was still more work that could be done.
